The international festival of masquerade games “Surva” in Pernik is one of the most prestigious performance of traditional folk games and customs with masks in Bulgaria and on the Balkans. It presents versions of ancient bachelor’s rituals, which is an essential part of the Bulgarian folk tradition. With its competitive program the festival is a meeting and a competition of its living carriers who are popular with the names of “survakari” and “mummers”.
